Tastes of fall

We had a potluck dinner at our Bible Study group tonight. I made this dishhttp://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Butternut-Squash-Apple-Onion-Au-Gratin/Detail.aspx

It was sooo tasty and everyone liked it. I felt like a successful cook, although the cool people in our group always like what I bring (at least they say they do.)

Last week it was empty bowls - this week.......

empty pots!

I actually started a little fall cleaning, but outside. It's much too pretty to stay indoors.

Here's the help. We planted a bunch of different hardy geraniums in my new cedar planter.

For more fabulous picture, keeping checking forawi.blogspot.com to see what Lydia and I were up to on Friday. These past 3 days have been fabulous, with occasional moments fraught with anxiety. I love words like "fraught".

Speaking of Lydia, this is from an email I received from her today -
"hey, gene wants me to ask you to enable the RSS on your blog. shrug. so.... I hope you'll do that spitspot!"

Gene - do you have any instructions for me, or any inclination to tell me what the RSS is? Any help is appreciated.

Grandparenting

We had a whirlwind visit to Bellingham Sunday and Monday. Doug,Danny and I got there just before 4:00 on Sunday and left at 7:00 on Monday. We decided to stay for dinner as Andy was leaving for work on Monday morning. Seems like we never see him enough! We stayed with Theo while Andy & Sarah went out for a bite to eat on Sunday evening. They were only gone a little over an hour, and I don't remember that he cried a lot, but he wouldn't take the tiny bottle we offered him, so he was crying, of course, when they got home. He is not interested in reasonable fascimiles when it comes to food. Monday afternoon Sarah went to an interpretating job and was gone a couple of hours. There was walking, singing, rocking, changing, and some crying. He was very snuggly most of the time. I'm putting up some pictures I took of Doug and Theo, since, as usual, Doug took about a thousand pictures while we were there, but he isn't in any of them.

I don't know what they're talking about, but aren't they cute?

Fall

I'm posting some pictures here of the harvest. I grew these eggplants (little fingers) and then cooked them with zucchini and sprinkled them with some mozzarella cheese. Also, fall colors and some soup I made last night with a ton of garlic in it in hopes of getting rid of this cold. Going to see the B'ham Lewises tomorrow afternoon and I don't want to be sneezing on you know who.

This has been a very long week

It's nice that it started with a sail on Puget Sound last Monday, but that seems like weeks ago. I've worked every day since then, even the 5 hours I put in today at church seemed like 10. Anyway, just to prove that I am interested in some other guys in the world besides the ones who's last names are Lewis, what about this?

I am attempting, once more, to insert a link here. Though it appears to work while I'm doing it, it doesn't show up on the published version. Aaaaaggghhhhh. Here's what I wanted to link to. You better read it!

Washington 21, Arizona 10
Oct. 1, 2006

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -Isaiah Stanback threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns to lead Washington to its third straight victory, a 21-10 win over Arizona on Saturday night.

Washington (4-1, 2-0) scored three times in the final 6:07 of the first half to take a 21-3 lead and held Arizona (2-3, 0-2) to minus-7 yards rushing.

Coach Tyrone Willingham's Huskies have already doubled their wins total from last year, his first as Washington coach.

Stanback hit Sonny Shackelford on a 50-yard pass that set up a 3-yard TD pass to Shackelford, erasing Arizona's 3-0 lead. Shackelford caught five passes for 105 yards, all in the first half.

Washington quickly got the ball back and scored again on a short drive highlighted by Stanbacks 45-yard pass to Anthony Russo, who was being played by heralded Arizona cornerback Antoine Cason.

The Huskies needed just two plays to add a third score, with 22 seconds left before the break.

Stanback hit Shackelford on a 24-yard pass and then scrambled to find Quintin Daniels for a 56-yard play against Arizona's prevent defense.

I'm starting to get just the tiniest bit hopeful that, maybe, they'rrrrrrrrrrreeee
back!
